The four Branches of the Mabinogi contains numerous depictions of the difficulties faced by women in medieval society, as well as evidence of the author’s sympathy for their plight. Discuss. There is no doubt the author of the Mabinogi has strong sympathy for the women in each of the branches. The women are very much centred figures in each branch and aren’t afraid to voice their opinion if it means that justice can prevail. It is clear to see women have a positive influence in the stories as they’re depicted being very knowledgeable noblewomen who are respected by their fellow male characters. Although the world is seen to be dominated by male power the role of women is still seen as important by the male counterparts as very valued for being their lovers and mothers to their children.
